Boodle Hatfield (London, England) has appointed its first female senior partner in its 300-year history, with head of private client Sara Maccallum set to take over the running of the firm on 1 May next year.
As part of a wider leadership overhaul at the London-based private wealth and property-driven firm, Boodle Hatfield is also introducing a management committee for the first time. The new three-person committee will feature Maccallum, head of residential property Saskia Arthur and head of contentious trusts and estates disputes Simon Rylatt.
Maccallum has been advising private clients at Boodle Hatfield for over 15 years with particular emphasis on integrating the tax requirements of their business life into their overall planning strategies.
She will take over from incumbent Richard Maughan, who is retiring from the firm, next year, becoming one of the few female top 100 law firm leaders.
Boodle Hatfield already scores highly on diversity, with 66 per cent of its equity partners being female and a similar proprtion of fee-earners managed by women.
The firm has also hired DLA Piper director for groups and sectors Andy Wansell as the firm's chief operating officer.
Wansell, who was also the business manager for DLA Piper's Madrid office, will work alongside Boodle Hatfield's new management committee to deliver its business plan and manage the business functions.
"Richard has steered the firm extremely well over the last 10 years," said Maccallum. "Whilst his are big shoes to fill, I'm very much looking forward to taking on the role of senior partner and working with the team and Andy, who will bring additional valuable international and business experience to our plans. We have some exciting ideas to develop further Boodle Hatfield's offering in our core markets of international private client and property."
