"Dignified Work Agenda"

Decree Law No. 53/2023, dated July 5th, regulates the Dignified Work Agenda, specifically focusing on social support, by making fundamental changes to labor legislation in order to reinforce the following:

  • The protection of young working students or young students who work during school holidays, allowing them to accumulate annual earnings of up to €10 640 with family allowance, scholarships, and survivor’s pensions.
  • Parental protection by increasing the initial parental allowance and the extended parental allowance to 90% and 40% of the remuneration, respectively, when there is an effective sharing of parental responsibilities. It also introduces the flexibility of parental leave, allowing for part-time enjoyment after the first 120 days.
  • Social Protection in the event of sickness, maternity, paternity, adoption, and death under the general social security system, as well as for public sector employees integrated into the convergent social protection system.

This decree comes into effect on the day following its publication, producing effects from May 1, 2023
