Gill Tallon is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and is a highly experienced private client specialist. Additionally, Gill is a Director and shareholder of Mercer & Hole Trustees Ltd, the firm’s Trust Corporation and heads up Mercer & Hole’s financial planning team.
Gill’s portfolio of clients include individuals, their families and their trusts, some of whom she has known for many years. She acts as trustee for many of her clients and advises on all aspects of personal financial planning, particularly involving trust and estate tax planning strategies. She also takes a special interest in acting for non domiciled individuals and offshore trusts.
Gill says “I draw a lot of diagrams in my client meetings – I find it helps to explain how sometimes quite a difficult technical aspect of the legislation point applies to their real life situation. I get a real buzz when a client confirms they have fully understood what their options are.”
Gill has acted as an Expert Witness including a high profile case regarding judicial pensions where tax consequences of the application of the lifetime and annual allowances were relevant. In addition, Gill has supported divorce lawyers with reports commenting on domicile and capital gains tax issues with proposed solutions to minimise the taxation on a split of assets on divorce.
In 1979 Gill’s career in taxation began when she joined the Inland Revenue. She then went on to work as a Manager for Binder Hamlyn, specialising in the private client and trust field, and then as a Worldwide Manager for Andersens when the two firms merged in 1994. In 1998 she joined Mercer & Hole where part of the private client work of Andersens was transferred. Gill has been a Partner at Mercer & Hole since 1999 and in 2017 she became the firm’s Deputy Managing Partner.
Outside of work, Gill enjoys having fun with friends. She likes to spend time with her daughters, go to music concerts and enjoys taking long walks with her dogs.
