Scott Tschudy was born in Des Moines, Iowa, but was raised in Kansas. His father worked in city management in Lawrence, Garnett, and Parsons, Kansas while Scott was growing up. This experience taught Scott the value of public service and the importance of civic mindedness. He carried these lessons into adulthood, previously serving on the board of the Prairie Village Homes Association, the Johnson County Arts & Humanities Association (n/k/a The Arts Council of Johnson County), the Prairie Village City Council, and currently serving as chair of Johnson County Developmental Supports, a Johnson County, Kansas governmental agency that facilitates career and personal development for Johnson County residents with developmental disorders. He also serves as a board member of the Alpha Xi Chapter House Corporation of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Kansas.

Early in his legal career, Scott served as President of the Kansas Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section and as a member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee.  Scott’s legal practice centers on products liability defense, construction law, commercial litigation, business law, and municipal finance.  In 1996, Scott and Tom Hamill opened the Kansas City office for the Martin Pringle law firm.

Products Liability

Scott has defended products liability claims for more than two decades. His extensive litigation experience includes representing manufacturers of medical devices, pharmaceutical products, construction equipment, and numerous consumer products. In addition, Scott represents and defends companies that rent construction equipment. He has successfully defended claims alleging manufacturing and design defects and failure to warn in federal and state courts throughout the country. Scott is a formidable advocate in the courtroom and a shrewd negotiator. The depth of his knowledge of this area of law, combined with his ability to quickly grasp the mechanics and legal issues involved in each case, make Scott a trusted ally to his clients.

Construction Law and Commercial Litigation

Over the years, Scott’s defense of claims involving construction equipment naturally led to his involvement in other construction-related litigation.  He enjoys an excellent reputation for defending claims against contractors and subcontractors arising out of construction projects as well as representing general contractors in breach of contract claims. Scott has over twenty years of experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in other litigated matters as well. He regularly represents clients involved in contract disputers, contested real estate matters, non-competition and trade secrets litigation, as well as pursuing and defending claims for injunctive relief.

Business Law

In addition to his litigation experience, Scott also has a business law practice. He has assisted numerous small business clients in establishing or restructuring their businesses, as well as preparing non-compete and employment contracts for them. In addition, Scott drafts and reviews business asset sales agreements when the need arises.

Municipal Finance

Scott serves as counsel to the Kansas Independent College Finance Authority (KICFA), which issues educational facilities revenue bonds to finance construction and other projects for independent institutions of higher education in fourteen cities in Kansas. He is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL). He has also served as Underwriters Counsel in many of the KICFA financings.
