Casner & Edwards Announces New Co-Managing Partners

Boston law firm Casner & Edwards, LLP announces the election of new Co-Managing Partners – Marc E. Fitzgerald and Michael F. Zullas. In addition, Katie L. S. Von Kohorn was named to the firm’s Management Committee. These appointments mark a transition to the next generation of leadership that will carry on the firm’s legacy of high quality, high touch legal service delivery.

As Co-Managing Partners, Fitzgerald and Zullas will lead a team of 44 attorneys practicing in the areas of Bankruptcy & Restructuring, Business & Corporate, Construction Law & Litigation, Emerging Growth, Employment Law, Environmental Law, Probate & Family Law, Government Enforcement & Regulatory Compliance, Independent Investigations, Litigation, Nonprofit Organizations, Real Estate, Tax, and Trusts & Estates. They will also serve as Co-Chairs of the firm’s Management Committee.

Commenting on his new leadership role, Fitzgerald said, “We thank the partners for the confidence that they have placed in us to serve together. We also thank John Morrier for all he has done in this role over the last several years, and we will do our best to carry the mantle forward.”

Fitzgerald is Chair of Casner & Edwards’ Probate & Family Law Practice. He handles all aspects of domestic relations, equity matters, and probate litigation, including divorce, custody, modification actions, child support, alimony, paternity, guardianship, adoption, pre- and postnuptial agreements, de facto parenting, and will contests. Fitzgerald represents clients in a variety of litigation, mediation, and conciliation involving complex business/pension valuation, asset division, alimony matters, inheritances, custody disputes, child support disputes, domestic violence, and non-traditional family structure. He acts as a parent coordinator, discovery master, and Attorney Representing Children (ARC). Fitzgerald practices in most counties in the Commonwealth, and also works from the firm’s Sandwich, Massachusetts office to assist clients in Plymouth, Cape Cod, and the Islands.

Von Kohorn is a partner in the firm’s Trusts & Estates practice. Her practice focuses on estate planning, estate and trust administration, charitable giving, and advising exempt organizations. She advises individual clients and generations of families with respect to estate planning, including estate and gift taxes, probate law, estate and trust administration, inter-generational planning, planning with digital assets, and philanthropy. She also serves as trustee of numerous trusts, and works extensively on the investment, tax, and legal aspects of trusts, as well as with the varied interests of trust beneficiaries. Von Kohorn counsels trustees and exempt organizations on issues pertaining to tax exemption, fiduciary responsibilities, and charitable trust law.

Zullas is a partner in the firm’s Business & Corporate Group. He counsels businesses at all stages of development: from inventors seeking venture financing and international licensing deals for their products; to the formation and sale of investment advisory and financial services firms; to the turnaround and sale of multimillion dollar enterprises. With over 30 years of experience as a litigator, public corruption prosecutor, and in-house general counsel to high-tech companies, Zullas brings a broad range of experience to counseling businesses of all kinds. His recent clientele has included companies in the fields of healthcare, biotechnology, software, behavioral health, education network applications, security hardware, bookstores, and financial services.
