LEADELL Encourages Not to Stop By Defending Human Rights and Peace in Ukraine

LEADELL firms in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania appreciate the support shown by the international alliance of law firms TAGLaw to the initiative of collecting donations for the people of Ukraine. The aim of the initiative is not only to invite the members of the alliance to donate but also to draw the attention of the entire international community to the fact that any support is important. This includes active expression of opinion and public condemnation of the Putin regime in Russia, which must be systematically maintained until justice prevails.

"[..] Today, we encourage all of our members to speak out, contact their government officials, and continue standing for human rights and peace," TAGLaw management expressed on the organization's official LinkedIn website.

With a personal story of how a small amount donated by a colleague has evolved into an international donation campaign, LEADELL's Baltic firms not only call for action but also for giving voice and inspiring people to get involved, thus promoting the sustainability of support measures.

"Society as a whole and each individual must do their utmost to use the lessons learned now to create a fairer and more secure world order in the future. Lawyers and politicians need to work towards more effective mechanisms for enforcing international law, and no less important revision of values must be done by each of us individually. It is apparent that democratic values can no longer be taken for granted today, and everyone must actively advocate for them on a daily basis. Western society must not get tired and become used to this – a persistent pressure must be kept. The isolation of Russia and the public criticism of its hostilities, as well as support measures for Ukraine, are paramount in the long run, ” remarks Kārlis Vītols, one of the authors of the initiative - LEADELL Vītols managing partner.

Owing to the TAGLaw Alliance's immediate involvement in the LEADELL initiative, the call for donations, as well as strong criticism of the Putin regime in Russia, has reached its members all over the world. The alliance  has a long history of supporting the rule of law, justice, and human rights throughout the world, but particularly, in this region. As an organization, it has been a vocal critic of the Putin regime in Russia going back to the murder of Sergei Magnitsky, a former TAGLaw lawyer, at the hands of Russian government officials. At the time, TAGLaw’s members and Advisory Board spoke out about Russia’s corrupt and violent actions and combined with the heroic efforts of Bill Browder and Jamison Firestone, this led to sweeping human rights laws around the world ("Sergei Magnitsky Act”).

LEADELL law firm alliance unites the Baltic law firms LEADELL Vītols in Latvia, LEADELL Pilv in Estonia and LEADELL Balčiūnas & Grajauskas in Lithuania, which specialize in providing services to business clients. Its members are united by both customer service quality standards and common values - security, trust and passion. Records of the years under Russian occupation can be found in the history of all three countries, which brings together colleagues in the Baltic States to stand up for the values of the free Western world, human rights and world peace.
