Strengthening its One Team: Two Join the Partnership and Five Solicitors Elevated at Carter Newell

Partnership Appointments
Carter Newell is delighted to welcome Danielle Skinner (Insurance – Sydney) and Michael Elliot (Construction & Engineering – Brisbane) to the partnership, together with a further five elevations across the Brisbane and Sydney offices.

In joining the partnership Danielle Skinner, who specialises in property and injury liability insurance, strengthens the offering for clients in our Sydney office. Danielle has extensive experience in all aspects of public liability and property damage and product claims. Having conducted litigation in various Australian jurisdictions, as well as appellate Courts, Danielle has also been involved in numerous Coronial Inquests.

Also joining the partnership is Michael Elliott who practices predominantly in construction and engineering dispute resolution and construction insurance recoveries. Michael advises principals, contractors and consultants on various issues arising on major projects throughout Australia and overseas. He’s also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has been recognised in Doyle’s Guide as a Rising Star in Construction & Infrastructure Australia.

Special Counsel elevation
Being elevated to Special Counsel is Stephanie Huestis (Insurance – Brisbane), who is part of the Property & Injury Liability team. Steph has a specialised focus on public liability, contractor’s liability and coverage claims, with extensive experience acting for major insurers and corporate insureds both locally and internationally. She has made significant contributions to the wider insurance industry over many years and is currently the presiding President of The Association for Women in Insurance (Qld).

Senior Associate elevation
Karl Higgins (Construction & Engineering – Brisbane) has been elevated to Senior Associate. Karl has considerable experience working alongside in-house legal teams of large construction companies and has built a reputation as their ‘problem solver’ and first point of contact, with the capability to manage construction matters across the full lifecycle of projects from contract drafting, review and negotiation, through to major disputes and litigation.

Associate elevation
Being elevated to Associate are Emily Holzberger (Insurance - Brisbane), Hayley Nankivell (Insurance - Brisbane), Nina Abangan (Insurance – Sydney).

Emily Holzberger is part of Carter Newell’s Financial Lines team. She practices in defence of a broad range of professional indemnity claims with a particular focus on the property sector (including real estate agents, property managers, body corporate managers, buyers’ agents, and resident unit managers).

Hayley Nankivell is also part of Carter Newell’s Financial Lines team that acts for a wide range of professional clients including solicitors, accountants, brokers, real estate agents and building professionals in both pre-court and litigated claims. In addition, Hayley has assisted in matters involving social engineering fraud and data breaches and has considerable knowledge concerning the obligations under Notifiable Data Breaches and evolving security and privacy legislation.

Nina Abangan works from Carter Newell’s Sydney office, Nina’s expertise extends to public and products liability, professional indemnity (financial lines), contract and construction works, industrial special risks and property damage in both litigated and non-litigated matters across various jurisdictions.
