Kochhar & Co. is pleased to announce the appointment of Ganesh Chandru as Senior Partner in its Chennai office. In his new role, he will work closely with various offices of the Firm (including New Delhi and Dubai) to further strengthen Kochhar & Co.'s pan-Indian arbitration and litigation capabilities, with a special focus on international arbitration.
Ganesh brings significant international arbitration expertise to the Firm, having advised clients in arbitrations seated both in India and before leading international arbitral institutions and at prominent foreign arbitral seats frequently chosen by Indian and multinational clients, including Singapore, London and Dubai.
With over 30 years of experience, Ganesh is a distinguished arbitration and litigation practitioner. His practice encompasses advising and representing clients in international commercial arbitrations conducted under the Rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA), the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, as well as ad hoc arbitrations. He also advises and regularly represents clients in arbitrations seated in India under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, in addition to appearing before courts and statutory tribunals across the country. His experience spans disputes arising from projects relating to infrastructure, construction, oil and gas, power and energy. He also enjoys expertise in handling disputes relating to telecommunications and information technology, banking and finance, joint ventures, shareholder agreements, and a broad range of corporate and commercial matters.
Prior to relocating to India in 2015, Ganesh spent over 16 years in Singapore, where he worked with leading international and Singapore law firms. Between 2002 and 2007, he served as Counsel and Assistant Registrar at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). During his tenure, he supervised the administration of approximately 500 arbitrations and played a pioneering role in strengthening SIAC's engagement with India.
An alumnus of Madras Law College and the National University of Singapore, Ganesh is admitted to practise in India, England & Wales, and Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and serves as a Director of the India Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. He has been recognised by several global legal publications as a leading commercial arbitration practitioner.
