Michael Higer Certified as The Florida Bar President-Elect Designate

We are pleased to announce that Berger Singerman's Michael J. Higer has been certified as The Florida Bar’s president-elect designate. He will be sworn in as president-elect at the Bar’s Annual Convention in June 2016 when William J. Schifino Jr. of Tampa will be sworn in as president.

Higer is a partner of the firm's Dispute Resolution Team and is an experienced trial lawyer with a concentration in commercial litigation and civil trial work.

He was first elected to The Florida Bar’s Board of Governors in 2008, representing the 11th Judicial Circuit, covering Miami-Dade County. He has served on many Florida Bar board committees and currently serves on the Executive Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee and is chairing the Program Evaluation Committee, which reviews all Bar programs and must approve new initiatives. In the 2014-15 Bar year, Higer chaired the Board’s Budget Committee.

This past summer he was appointed by Florida Bar President-Elect Schifino to serve on a special committee to work with the upcoming state Constitution Revision Commission.

Higer is a member of The Florida Bar Business Law Section; Family Law Section; Labor and Employment Law Section; and Trial Lawyers Section. In 2010-2011, he chaired the Business Law Section.

Higer is also an active member of the Fellows of the American Bar Association.

Higer focuses his practice on commercial litigation including insurance, real estate, intellectual property and debtor/creditor matters.

Higer is admitted to practice in Florida and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Supreme Court; U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal; U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeal; and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern districts of Florida.

Born in Miami Beach, Higer earned a B.A. in 1982 from the University of Florida and his J.D. with honors in 1985 from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as the executive editor of the Law Review.
