Fillmore Riley welcomes new taxation law partner Johanna C.C. Caithness.

The partners of Fillmore Riley LLP (Manitoba, Canada) congratulate Johanna on her admission to the partnership effective January 1, 2016.

Johanna practises primarily in the area of taxation and has become an integral part of the taxation law team at Fillmore Riley. Becoming a partner at Fillmore Riley is a recognition of hard work, exceptional lawyering and teamwork.

“Johanna has developed into a key member of our tax group, working closely with Cy Fien, Don Bowes and the balance of our team in providing exceptional service to our clients,” said managing partner Glen Peters. “Tax law and planning is a major strength of our firm and Johanna will be a leader in that area for years to come.”

Johanna helps her clients plan their personal and business affairs to maximize tax savings. Her clients range from individuals seeking estate-planning advice to corporations involved in complex commercial transactions.

“Johanna is smart. There are lots of smart lawyers, but what sets Johanna apart is her common sense and good judgement. That is as important as knowing the laws,” said Cy Fien, a senior taxation partner at Fillmore Riley and one of Canada’s preeminent taxation lawyers. “Clients who have worked with Johanna trust her advice and work product, which is why I think she will be an outstanding lawyer in the years to come.”

Admitted to the Manitoba Bar in 2008, Johanna frequently delivers lectures to the profession on various topics and has been a sessional lecturer at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Law, Robson Hall.

Prior to establishing her taxation law practice at Fillmore Riley, Johanna was a law clerk to the Honourable Justice Marshall Rothstein at the Supreme Court of Canada from 2008 to 2009.

Johanna earned her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba, graduating as a Gold Medallist in 2007. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science (with distinction) from the University of Manitoba in 2004.

Johanna isn’t the only member of Fillmore Riley’s taxation team who earned a gold medal. Cy Fien, Don Bowes, Paul Grower and Ari Hanson also graduated as gold medallists in one or both of their university degrees.
