Harper Grey Launches Life in Law – a New Initiative Aimed at Stemming the Exodus of Women in Law

We are excited to announce Harper Grey’s newest platform, Life in Law – a support forum for women practicing law. Harper Grey is committed to helping women maximize their potential and excel in their careers and hope that this new forum will provide an avenue of support and open communication for women lawyers in BC.

Spearheaded by Harper Grey partners, Kim Jakeman and Una Radoja, the idea was formed based on their shared passion for expanding possibilities for women in law. They also share a frustration over the rate at which women leave private practice or leave the profession altogether. “We have all watched as our female friends, coworkers, and colleagues have made the difficult choice to give up the career path they spent years working towards and we wanted to do something that would make an impact and help lower the attrition rate of all women lawyers.”

Kim and Una latched onto the idea of creating a forum, outside of the standard mentoring model, that would be readily accessible and provide a confidential service for women lawyers to talk to each other and share their experiences, knowledge and perspectives.

“Although powered by Harper Grey, Life in Law is meant to be, more broadly, a forum for women to support women”, says Managing Partner Jonathan Meadows. “Our firm is delighted to support it and get it off the ground and we hope that over time interest grows in the forum and it becomes a place where women feel safe to express their concerns through the support of other women in the practice of law. This means growing to include lawyers outside Harper Grey who have their own story to tell or lesson they want to share.”
