This Chapter addresses the keys to successful partnering between inside and outside counsel in the professional sports industry. Although this Chapter places particular emphasis upon the four major United States professional sports leagues, Major League Baseball (“MLB”), the National Football League (“NFL”), the National Basketball Association (“NBA”) and the National Hockey League (“NHL”), it is also presented with an eye towards other leagues—such as Minor League Baseball, Major League Soccer and Major League Lacrosse—that may have less visibility on the United States professional sports landscape, but whose counsel will encounter the same types of issues as the larger leagues.
